This presentation will help criminal defense attorneys comply with their Sixth Amendment obligations to provide effective representation to noncitizen defendants by understanding what information is relevant to determine the immigration consequences, what their advice must include so the client can meaningfully understand their options, and how to defend against the immigration consequences.

Onyx Starrett and Brooke Lautz work as the criminal-immigration experts at the Santa Barbara and Ventura Public Defender Offices, respectively. They have over two decades of experience in immigration and criminal law.
