About the Event: No topic in employment law creates more confusion than worker classification. On the one hand, there is the question whether a worker can be legitimately treated as an “independent contractor,” thus avoiding payroll laws and taxes. Equally vexing to many employers is the question whether an employee is “exempt” or “non-exempt.” In both instances, mistakes in classification can be costly, as illustrated by the frequent seven, eight and even nine figure settlements and verdicts covered in the media.

This 1 hour MCLE presentation will demystify the topic of classification. Attendees will be given the tools necessary to understand when a worker can properly be classified as an independent contractor, and whether an employee is exempt or nonexempt. Who should attend?
